International References: International references refers to scientific studies, models, and reports that are normally peer reviewed, and generally recognized and promoted by international organizations, such at the UN. Often this references are produced by large teams or are "meta reports" which are condensations of many other studies. Often, this data is overlooked by organizations with an ideological agenda.

MacKay deals with the essential numbers that put various clean energy sources into the context necessary to make sensible choices. He puts emphasis on energy density, or in other words, how much land is needed for each source, and how applicable each is in different environments. The finest source on the subject. moreless

This Synthesis Report is based on the assessment carried out by the three Working Groups (WGs) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It provides an integrated view of climate change as the final part of the IPCC’s Fourth Assessment Report (AR4). Topic 1 summarizes observed changes in climate and their effects on natural and human systems, regardless of their causes, while Topic 2 assesses the causes of the observed changes. Topic 3 presents projections of future climate change and related impacts under different scenarios. Topic 4 discusses adaptation and mitigation options over the next few decades and their interactions with sustainable development. Excellent example of the thinking and methodology, but not the most recent data. moreless

UNSCEAR, the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, is the international body with the responsibility to report on the exposure of people to radiation worldwide and to assess the scientific information on the effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. The document discusses the following: What is radiation? How is radiation measured? How are people exposed to radiation? What levels of radiation exposure do people receive? What are the effects of exposure to radiation? moreless

IAEA Summary report on the Chernobyl accident 20 years after. The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986 was the most severe in the history of the nuclear power industry, causing a huge release of radionuclides over large areas of Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Now, 20 years later, UN agencies and representatives of the three countries have reviewed the health, environmental and socio-economic consequences. moreless

Massive climate documentation library. A “must” reference for diverse quality information. Few areas can benefit as much from Open Access as climate change research: the combination of public, scientific, and governmental interest with the mounting misinformation, unsubstantiated opinions, and unsourced data make public access to original, well-reported, and peer-reviewed climate change research of utmost importance. An international reference. moreless

Since the beginning of the UN’s international climate activities, measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) of Parties’ progress has been an important activity. For climate change mitigation recommendations to be effective and a useful planning tool, parties need reliable information on emissions and actions, both at home and worldwide. MRV is a term used to describe all measures which states take to collect data on emissions, mitigation actions and support, to compile this information in reports and inventories, and to subject these to international review or analysis. moreless

The 4th November 2016, the Paris Agreement entered into force. 94 countries have ratified the Agreement. Ratification turns their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Most countries didn’t modify their INDCs. In total, there are now 162 NDCs and INDCs covering 191 countries, who are collectively responsible for more than 99% of global greenhouse gas emissions. moreless

In 2015, total gross U.S. greenhouse gas emissions were 6,586.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MMT CO2 Eq.). Total U.S. emissions have increased by 3.5 percent from 1990 to 2013, and emissions decreased from 2014 to 2015 by 2.3 percent (153.0 MMT CO2 Eq.). The decrease in total greenhouse gas emissions between 2014 and 2015 was driven in large part by a decrease in CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion. Data for 2016 are not included. Due to current political situation, improvements are unlikely to be repeated. moreless
